The Location of Your Traffic School

Do I have to attend traffic school in the court district that gave me the ticket?
No. They don't call it the World-Wide Web for nothing. You may work toward completion of your traffic school anywhere you have Internet access.

You will need to provide us with your address so that we can mail your Certificate of Completion. You will also need to specify the court location.

Some counties require that your test be proctored, so you will have to locate a testing center near you.

Who Can Take SkilledDriver.com Traffic School Courses

I was recently ticketed, can I go ahead and take your course now?
No. Traffic school is a sentencing option, so you must have permission of the court. Not all courts allow traffic violators to attend online courses for traffic school.

Make sure you appear at court, as required, and then see if you are eligible for traffic school. The court can tell you if this course is approved. You may also request that you be given permission to take this course if it is not directly listed as approved by the court.

Can I take the course if I am under 18?
You must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in an online traffic school. If you are a minor, and have been sentenced to traffic school, check with your court to find out what kind of traffic schools are approved for you.

How can I find out if I am qualified to take this course?
At court you may be offered the option of going to traffic school to mask your ticket. If so, there are some stipulations that may need to be met. Generally, for example, you may go to a traffic violator course if you have not completed one in the last 18 months. Some courts may not allow you to use an online option. Check with your court to be sure.

I completed a traffic violator course within the last 18 months, can I still take your course?
Normally, the answer is no, but you may petition the court to attend a traffic violator school and then see if they will grant that request.

How can I find out if my court allows me to take this course?
You will receive paperwork from the court identifying approved online traffic schools. If we are on that page, we are absolutely approved by that court. If we are not listed, you may still ask the court if it would be willing to allow you to take this course. More and more, courts are approving online traffic schools.

My court is not listed, can I still take this course?
If your court does not appear on our list, then this course is not currently approved by that court. You may still ask your court to allow you to take traffic school online.

SkilledDriver is not listed by my court, can I still take your course?
Not without approval by your court. You may ask the judge for permission to use our course.

Can I take SkilledDriver course for a DUI conviction?
No. Individuals convicted of a DUI are specifically sentenced to drinking driver schools. SkilledDriver is not a drinking driver school.

Do I have to take the course on only one computer?

Do I need a printer to take this course?

Paying for the Course

Did I pay for any of the costs of traffic school when I made payments at court?
No. Payment for this course only occurs on our website.

How much does this course cost?
The costs for the SkilledDriver course depend, in part, on the court that sentenced you. Some courts do not require proctoring, so the cost of the course is $19.95. Other courts require that your exam be proctored in other words, that you take your exam at a predetermined location, not at your home computer, so that your identity can be verified. While SkilledDriver does not charge for this service, a nominal fee will be charged by the proctoring location. This fee rarely exceeds $7-$10, but to be sure, call the proctoring location and ask for the cost of computer time by the hour. Finally, some courts require that the testing be conducted by third-party testing agencies. These agencies charge fees for processing your test and handling your certificate of completion. If you are sentenced by a court that requires third-party testing, the total cost of your SkilledDriver course will go up by only $5.

Do I have to pay before I begin?
No. You may complete the entire first chapter of section one, including the quiz, before you are required to pay for the course.

Do I have to pay online with a credit card?
Yes. At this time the only form of payment we accept is a credit card processed online. This is completely safe. SkilledDriver is absolutely committed to your security. The site is protected by 128-bit strong encryption to secure any transmission of your personal information from any interception. This is the strongest level of encryption in the world. We are a VeriSign Secure Site, and you can confirm that by clicking on the VeriSign Secure Site logo on our home page. If you are concerned about safety, think about how secure your credit card information is when you hand your card to the 18 year old server at your local coffee shop. He isn't encrypted, we are.

The site is rejecting my credit card for payment, what should I do?
Call our customer service center from 9AM-5PM (PST).

How will I know if you have received my payment?
Once your payment has been received, you will receive a confirmation email from SkilledDriver. Oh, and you'll also be able to move on to chapter two.

Can I get a refund?
We offer all of our customers the chance to "test-drive" our site for free by allowing you to complete the first chapter and quiz free of charge. After you pay, no refunds are available unless the course were to become unavailable to you as a result of an Act of God or because of technical problems associated with our server (we are not responsible to grant refunds due to a lack of uptime of your Internet Service Provider). Any requests for a refund should be addressed to customerservice@skilleddriver.com

Can I cancel my registration for the course?
This is not required as our registration records are regularly purged. If you do not pay, your records will be purged after your court expiration date.

Getting Started

What information will I need to begin this course?
You will need your citation number and your driver's license. Even if you think you know the information on your driver's license, have it handy so that you can enter the information accurately. This is important, as that information will be used for security questions, and may be used by a third party if your final exam must be proctored.

When can I start?
You may enroll at SkilledDriver.com as soon as you have been approved by the court to take our online traffic school.

How do I begin the course?
Simply go to our home page and click on "Enroll in SkilledDriver Course" or the button "Start Course" and answer the questions on each of the enrollment pages. The process is easy - we will guide you through.

Do I have to pay before I begin?
No. You may complete the first chapter and the first chapter quiz before you are asked for payment.

Do I have to have an email address?
Yes. SkilledDriver needs to be able to send you confirmation emails and notification of completion. Additionally, we send reminder emails to keep you on track. We will not give out your email address to any third party not directly related to the completion of this course.

I have a friend who speaks Spanish, do you offer the course languages other than English?
Yes. SkilledDriver is offered on-line, in Spanish.

Registering For the Course

If I did not register within 5 business days after my court date, can I still take this course?
The courts are keen to get you started as soon as possible, so they recommend that you register within 5 business days. Unless your court expiration date for completion has arrived, you can register with SkilledDriver.com. Please keep in mind, however, the amount of time it will take for you to complete the course, receive your Certificate of Completion, and forward it on to the court. We can help with express and overnight delivery options, but only you know how long it will take you to complete the course.

Can I change my registration information?
We recommend that you take special care in filling out your registration information regarding their personal information - especially driver's license information and personal ID questions. We share the state's concern regarding fraud, and that is why we ask so many identification questions. These questions easily can be answered by registrants, if they have correctly and accurately filled out the registration information. If you find that the registration information has been incorrectly entered once you have begun, you will have to contact the Customer Service representative, and they will try to provide assistance.

What if I move after I have begun the course?
No problem. Simply go to the Edit Info link on the student dashboard and make the needed corrections.

Taking the Course

How do I log in to the course?
There are three ways to log in:

    1) off the home page, click on link "re-enter" course below "Returning Students" on the home page.
    2) Click on "Re-enter Course" link on the Navigation Bar on any page.
    3) At the bottom of every page you can click on the link "Re-enter course."

How do I log out of the course?
On the student dashboard, just click on "Sign Out."

Will my login name or password expire?
After you have been notified of course completion, you login name and password will expire.

Can I start and stop and start again, or do I have to go through the course at one sitting?
You may take the online course at your own pace. You can do it all in one sitting (we would recommend a cushion) or you may start and stop as you like. If your pace is slow, however, we ask that you pay close attention to the time remaining before your court-mandated completion date. Be sure to finish in plenty of time.

How do I move through the course?
While moving through the course, you will be given prompts to take you from chapter to chapter. If you start and stop, when you re-enter the course, your Course Summary tells you the chapter to which you are returning. You need only click on the "course entry" link next to that chapter.

Quizzes and the Final Exam

How many quizzes are in this course?
The course is made up of 14 chapters that are organized into 4 sections. At the end of each chapter there is a short quiz. At the end of the chapters in a section, there is a longer section quiz that is comprehensive over that section. This block by block learning method is designed to help you pass the final exam.

What kinds of questions are in the quizzes?
The questions are multiple-choice and True/False questions.

Some of the questions on the quizzes do not seem to have anything to do with driving. Why is that?
To make sure that the person reading the curriculum is the person taking the quiz, reading questions are inserted. You may be asked things like, "What is the author's favorite ice cream?" Because somewhere in that chapter, you were told what it was. You may not skip through the chapters based on your knowledge of the vehicle code and driver handbook.

How do I know if I have passed or failed a quiz?
Once you submit a quiz for grading, you will immediately be told whether you passed or failed the quiz. If you pass, a screen will come up congratulating you and inviting you to move on to the next section. If you fail, a screen will pop up telling you that you failed to get a minimum score to pass, and you will be redirected to the top of the chapter over which you are being quizzed so that you can read and take notes more carefully.

How do I get to the final exam?
In one of three ways:

    1) In non-proctored courts, when you successfully complete all of the chapter and section quizzes, a screen will appear asking if you would like to take the final exam. If you feel ready, press yes and take the exam.

    2) In proctored courts, you will be directed to a testing center to take your exam. When you log in at the testing center, all of the directions that you and the employee of the testing center need to access the exam will come up.

    3) In courts that require a third-party exam, you will be directed to click on a link that will take you to the third-party web site where you will receive instructions and take the exam.

How do I know if I passed my final exam?
The exams will be scores automatically once you click on the submission button. A screen will appear telling you whether you passed the final exam. Additionally, an email will be sent to your email address confirming that you have passed. Similarly, if you fail you will see a screen telling you so, and you will receive an email confirming that you have failed - you will also receive instructions concerning retaking the final exam.

How do I find out my score on the final exam?
Both the screen you see after the exam and the email will give you your percentage score.

If I fail the final exam, can I repeat the SkilledDriver course until I pass?
Yes, you may repeat the course until you pass all the way up until the expiration date for completion of your traffic school as set by the court.

Proctored (in-person) Final Exams

What is a proctored exam?
A proctored (in-person) exam occurs when you are required to have someone else verify and administer your exam.

Why do some courts require proctoring?
Courts value security and want to avoid fraud. Proctoring is a way that a third-party can verify that the person taking the traffic school course is the same person who is taking the test.

How do I take a proctored exam?
If you are required to take a proctored "in-person identity-verified" exam, you will be notified during enrollment. Once you have successfully completed all of the chapter and section quizzes, you will be directed to go to a notary public - we will provide a list of conveniently located notaries, or you may choose your own. You will need to take an official photo identification with you to the notary public, along with a printout of your Final Exam and the blank Answer Sheet. Step by step instructions were provided when you selected your court, and they will be provided again for you when you reach the final exam.

Where are notary publics?
Notary publics are all over the state. We will provide you with a list of notaries near you, or you may select your own at your convenience.

How much does proctoring cost?
Some notary publics are free, while others charge a fee - usually around $10. Contact the notary and ask about their fee before you go.

Third-Party Exams

What is a third-party exam?
A third-party exam is where an organization other than the traffic school administers your final exam.

Who requires a third-party exam?
Some courts require the final exam to be administered by a third party. If that is true in your court, you will be notified as soon as you identify the court from which you received your ticket.

How do I take a third-party exam?
When you have successfully completed your chapter and section quizzes, you will be asked to click on a link that will take you to the third party website, where you will receive instructions and then take the final exam.

Did I pay for my third-party exam when I paid for the SkilledDriver course?
Yes. You will notice an additional testing fee on your payment if your court requires that we send you to third-party testing.

If you successfully finish your final exam today before 3 PM (PST) and have selected the Next Day Air option for mailing your certificate, and then are willing to get it to court, then you may manage to finish in time. However, we do not recommend that you wait this long to finish. Provide a 4-5 day minimum cushion to give you time to complete the entire process. Additionally, if you are unable to complete by the deadline, you may go to the court and ask for an extension (which may or may not be granted). Some courts allow the postmark to count for the due date, and others grant a grace period. Do not assume this is the case, however. Check with your particular court.

What Happens After I Pass The Final Exam
